Will History Repeat Itself?

Tonight the “Tarn” will come up against the West London giants Chelsea in the 3rd round of the FA Cup. 

The FA Cup is full of surprises and shock results, it is a chance for the lower league teams to be the ultimate underdogs and cause massive upsets. The magic of the FA Cup is a common phrase in the football world, some of the most surprising results come in this competition, because the draws are pure luck and you can match up against anyone. Some surprising results have already happened this season as League 2 Newport knocked out the new look Championship Watford last night, but could this this be the first of many?

Chelsea vs Barnsley. This is not the only time these two sides have met in this historic competition, the last time was in 2008 when Barnsley ran out shock winners in a scrappy affair. However, will history repeat its self? Who knows, the beauty of the FA Cup is always in full flow. Both sides are coming into this match with defeats at the weekend; witch Chelsea being picked apart by current Premier League holders Liverpool and 9-man Barnsley losing against a solid Reading side.

This maybe be a bounce back match for Chelsea after already being criticized for spending big in the summer and start players not performing to the level they expect. It also maybe a chance for Barnsley to play the quick and stylish football they are being built to play, but it may be a difficult challenge as Brazilian veteran Thiago Silva is set to make his debut tonight for the blues. Who knows… it’s the FA Cup after all.
