A World Health Organization official says that existing vaccines will should still protect you from severe covid cases if u contract the omicron variant.

The lab test of the variant has suggested that it can partially evade the Pfizer jab. There was a “very large drop” in how well the vaccines antibodies neutralised the strain. However, Dr Mike Ryan had said that there was actually no sign the omicron variant would be better at evading vaccines than other variants. He had stated that they have “highly effective vaccines that proved effective against all the variants so far” he says, “there’s no reason to expect that it wouldn’t be so for omicron”. He states that “the direction is towards less severity”.

Prof Alex Sigal a virologist who led the research in the new south African study had said that the blood tests from 12 people “were better than I expected of omicron”. Scientists have said they believe previous infection followed by vaccination is likely to increase the neutralisation level and boosters may also bring a difference and benefit and this will probably protect people against severe disease.
