The Gabon international Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang hits the headlines yet again, after it was revealed, he missed the Gunners home fixture at the weekend when Southampton travelled to the capital. The striker has since been stripped of his duties as Arsenal captain.
Arsenal beat the Saints 3-0 on Saturday, in Aubameyang’s absence. He reportedly missed training on Friday to fly to Barcelona for a tattoo appointment. In consequence he missed the weekends game and is also set to miss tonight’s fixture (15TH December) against West Ham. A game that is definitely a crucial one for the Gunners in their race for European football come the end of the season.
Aubameyang became the Arsenal captain back in 2019, when Granit Xhaka was stripped of the club captaincy. His reign as captain wasn’t a long or successful one in all honesty. The performances weren’t good enough, from both the team as a whole and Aubameyang’s personal performances.
The decision was made fairly swiftly after the breach of the clubs disciplinary procedure. It was ,made clear he was not committed at the level expected by both the club in general and the expectations of Arteta.
