South Yorkshire football had a week to remember, with local teams delivering standout performances, thrilling goals, and high-stakes battles that showcased the region’s intense passion for the game.
It was a victorious weekend for the whole South Yorkshire – something we haven’t seen for a long time. The Owls made the long journey down to Portsmouth on Friday night – taking over 2,000 down. Portsmouth defender Connor Ogilvie gave Portsmouth the lead just before half time. This however made no difference to the Owls. They started the second half brightly, levelling through non other than Josh Windass. An amazing 70th minute winner then came as Micheal Smithed smashed one home against his former club. Overall, a thrilling away day for the Owls and some more important points.

Sheffield United were at home to Stoke City after a run of poor performances against some big clubs. However, they were back to winning ways by 16:45 on Saturday afternoon. The Blades opened the scoring in the 14th minute when striker Kieffa Moore, redirected a shot from Alfie Gilchrist to make his second goal of the season. Moments later, a powerful effort from Vinicius Souza was stopped by Stoke goalkeeper Viktor Johansson. This was followed by a multitude of efforts leading up to half-time, with non-converting. No changes were made at half time and the game was sealed for Sheffield United five minutes later. Campbell, an ex-Stoke player scored his first goal of the season to put the Blades two goals ahead. Another important three points for the Blades – helping them climb their way up the table.
Barnsley were away at Shrewsbury – a side who have been struggling since the start of the season. The Tykes started off well and long that continued until they finally put the ball in the back of the net before half time. A goal from Jonathan Russell, put the Reds ahead. They came out strong in the second looking for chance after chance, until a run from Watters who passed the Shrewsbury defence beat Savin at his near post. The game ended Shrewsbury 0, Barnsley 2.
Rotherham were at home and faced Stevenage. It has been a tough start for the Millers, and this was emphasised by a loud boo around the New York Stadium before kick-off. It was a dull first half with neither team making any mark in the game. It wasn’t until the 70th minute when substitute Hugil made the breakthrough to score the first goal. It only took three minutes for the home side to cement the win, after Wilks lashed the ball into the roof of the net. The Millers took all three points.
To keep the trend of victory going – lets head to Donny Rovers. Doncaster were away at Bradford, a short journey up to West Yorkshire. Rovers controlled the first half but couldn’t find the back of the net. The second half proved to be a far more competitive game – with chances coming from both sides. However, it was Doncaster who managed to convert, with a goal from Luke Molyneux in the 57th minute. Soon enough Rovers were on a charge, and former Blades legend Billy Sharp, struck from close range to make the final score Bradford City 0, Doncaster Rovers 2.

Formula one was in the Capital of Mexico – Mexico City. Carlos Sainz was on Pole by a whopping 0.225 seconds, with Norris and Verstappen behind him. It was a hectic start, as expected with positions being swapped left right and centre. By turn two Verstappen was ahead, but not for long as a valiant Carlos Sainz was determined to get back ahead, and that he did. Lando Norris and Max Verstappen were then head-to-head, causing some upset, again. Max ended up getting a 20 second penalty for both his battles with Norris, leaving him to try crawl his way back up to the top. It was an eventful race, finishing Sainz P1, Lando P2, and Leclerc P3.
