Another action-packed week of sports has flown by, filled with electric performances, clutch plays, and stories that will be talked about for days to come.
It was a derby filled weekend here in South Yorkshire, starting of with Barnsley at home to Rotherham. The Tykes came into the game as big favourites, after Rotherham’s poor performance against Cheltenham in the cup. The hosts took the lead after 32 minutes through midfielder Jon Russell; a deserved lead going into the second half. It looked as though the Millers were going to recover themselves with only 18 minutes to plat however Ben Killip prevented any shot converting. With only four minutes left in the game, Barnsley forward Stephen Humphries made it 2-0, making it a Barnsley victory in the South Yorkshire derby.

It was only a short break for S.Y police, as the first Steel City Derby in four years was back, for a Sunday morning kick-off. I high pressure, high intensity game for both the fans and players, however the past two derby’s played between the sides ended in 0-0 draws. This however wasn’t the case. Sheffield United went into the game favourites, having had a stronger start to the season. This game started well for the Blades, they dominated in possession, but struggled to penetrate the Wednesday defence. It was clear by the set-up from both sides that one was here for a win and the other was there for a draw. There were no goals in the first half, but the Blades were finally able to convert only minutes into the second half via Tyrese Campbell. It wasn’t until the last 15minutes when the Owls began to be more of a threat but couldn’t get past the Sheffield United defence. The Blades walked away with all three points.

Finally, Doncaster Rovers were at home to close rivals Notts County. Both teams have started the season well and have had a strong run of form, making it tight contest. It took Notts County just 13 minutes to score, but Rovers responded well and went into half time filled with belief of a revival. Rovers were unable to take advantage of good chances for Patrick Kelly and Molyneux, before finally equalising with 17 minutes left when Ironside planted a header beyond Alex Bass from a brilliant Jamie Sterry cross. The points were shared on this occasion, slotting rovers just behind Notts County in fourth.
