The former PSG boss takes over at struggling Chelsea.
Following the departure of club legend, Frank Lampard, Thomas Tuchel has been named the new Chelsea head coach. The news was announced as he took charge of his first training session at 6 o’clock yesterday evening.
The timing of the appointment makes it look like it was very much planned before Lampard was even sacked. Tuchel took PSG to their first Champions league final last year but only to lose 1-0 to a very strong Bayern Munich side. His reward for this was a harsh sacking following a 4-0 victory in the league. Before he was at PSG Tuchel was manager of Borussia Dortmund in his home country. Here he won the DFB-Pokal. The main cup in German football.
Many people believe he isn’t good enough to take over as Chelsea job, one of these people is former manager Harry Rednkapp who said, “who says he is a great manager? Winning titles in France doesn’t make you a good manager.” But there are also people who believe that he will get the best out of fellow Germans, Timo Werner and Kai Havertz who were each big money moves in the summer but haven’t lived up to their potential. Especially Timo Werner who was scoring 30 goals a season in Germany but has shown no sign of been a prolific goal scorer over in England and has admitted he has struggled to adapt to the pace and physicality of the Premier league. But only time will tell if this is the right move or not.
