After Tuesday night’s lack lustre performance, Thomas Tuchel finds himself without a job as Chelsea announce the sacking of the German after an eventful 100 games for the club.
New owners sack Tuchel just 3 months after the long-anticipated takeover from former owner Roman Abramovich. After winning the UEFA Champions League under the previous ownership, Tuchel has been left “totally shocked” by new owner Todd Boehly’s spontaneous decision to relieve him of his duties and how he’s recently been treated.

Despite the underwhelming start to the season for Chelsea many fans still put faith in Tuchel and hoped he would turn things around for the West London side. As fan channels such as Chelsea Fan TV posted fan-cam videos onto YouTube consisting of surprisingly positive comments from the Chelsea supporters, with one fan stating that “it’s not the end of the world”, with another Blues fan writing that they “obviously haven’t got enough to win the league, but I am still confident we can get top 4 and another trophy under TT (Thomas Tuchel).
As we’ve now seen within modern football, new owners more often than not prefer the idea of recruiting their own coach that they believe in, and a coach they identify as a character capable of taking the team under their wing and leading the side to greatness.

However, with recent news that Chelsea have confirmed a new first team coach in Brighton’s Graham Potter, many fans could quickly forget about the Tuchel sacking saga as Potter arrived with his desirable CV and style of football. Having recently masterminded successful campaigns with Brighton, he’s quickly become admired by fans of the Premier League due to the lack of high-tier English managers in the game.
With Chelsea already 6 games into the Premier League season, Potters clear talent has helped guide his former Brighton team to fourth in the table, including shock wins against Manchester United on the opening game week and a stunning 5-2 thrashing against a poor Leicester City side. With Chelsea sat in sixth place and clearly lacking the passion which we have seen at times under Tuchel, including defeats to Leeds and Southampton, Could Graham Potter inspire again this set of Chelsea players?
As for the two managers, Tuchel had only conceded a total of 24 goals in his first 50 games for Chelsea, however in the last 50 games that total had more than doubled as he conceded 53, showing the downward defensive spiral of the football club over the last season.

After winning a UEFA Champions League title, the FIFA Club World Cup and x2 FA Cups, Tuchel’s CV is certainly superior to Potters, however Potter has lacked the chance to thrive with a club of Chelsea’s calibre, yet he has still shown a leader’s mentality after transforming a poor Brighton side into a fully established Premier League side.
After a three season reign at Brighton potter managed a total of 42 victories for the seagulls out of a possible 135. On paper the may not seem the most optimistic for Chelsea fans, but as we all know Potter has had time to construct a team built on little money, so what could be achieved via a bottomless pit of cash from the new owner?
