In a lively debate that has captured the attention of many across the world, former president Donald Trump and Vice president Kamala Harris went head-to-head, raising the stakes in a discussion that’s capturing interest from teens, as we are starting to engage with politics more deeply.

Trump is known for his controversial and bold statements, taking charge of headlines making his campaign one that has been rallying since his loss against President Joe Biden in 2021. In the debate Trump shared his views on his time as president and criticizing the current presidency. Arguing that he led the economy to growth he and promised he would restore his previous policies and strengthen national security if he was re-elected.

But as the new face of the Democratic Party, Harris defended Biden’s leadership and pointed out the progress. Harris then took to speak about issues that are important to younger audiences as well as older, connecting with our care for our planet and their efforts to tackle climate change and education affordability. She challenges Trump to show that their policies help for long term issues and modern problems.

A classic debate wont go down without a few jabs thrown towards the opponent to rattle each other and this was no exception. Despite meeting for the first time, they were more than prepared, shown when Trump delivers,

“Wait a minute, I’m talking now, if you don’t mind please, does that sound familiar?” Referring to Harris’ “I’m speaking” during the 2020 vice presidential race against former Vice President Mike Pence.

Harris stood her place as she reminded,

“It’s important to remind the former president, you’re not running against Joe Biden, you are running against me,”.

Despite these issues taking place in the U.S, we can still find relevance for teens in the UK. The way global leaders around the world handle issues can have an effect worldwide and can help you understand as you begin to become more curious about politics and stay informed and potentially influence your future and what you do with it.
