Tories On Tour!

Michael Gove has stated that Civil Servants need to move closer to “where the action is,” moving the Tories up North in a new Headquarters.

Next year, Conservative Co-chair, Amanda Milling hopes to open this second HQ in Leeds.
It was announced over the Conservative conference, this Saturday, that Leeds would be a good place for a new HQ so people don’t have to move down to London to work, and there are hopes that it will show Tory commitment for the Northern constituencies that voted blue in the previous election, in December of 2019. However, as expected, this “blue-wall” news has caused controversy online, as people on Twitter wonder if this is the right time to be focusing on a new HQ, when we are in the midst of a pandemic, and disagree with it from a political stance as some believe that this new HQ is a form of “propaganda” (@artsymesia on Twitter) to destroy the “red-wall” built in the North. In opposition to this, others agree that a second Headquarters is a great opportunity – especially for the Civil Servants who can’t travel outside of Yorkshire – generating more jobs for people further away from Westminster. @HarropGraham, in a Twitter thread said, “It will bring income and work to Leeds.” As well as this, people have an understanding that the move up North is going to benefit politicians and their policies, too.
As this story has only been released today, the people of Yorkshire have just started to voice their opinions. As developments progress, and more information is released, the public will continue to speak out about their thoughts on a new Tory HQ in Leeds. Will this cause a political upheave, or will people accept this is a turning point for the Tory government? Only time will tell.
