This year, Halloween is going to feel a lot different to before. With curfews and restrictions being put in place almost every week, it’s safe to say that the majority of people will likely be celebrating Halloween from home this year. In light of this, we want to ensure that everyone can still enjoy Halloween, even if it isn’t exactly the same. One of the best ways to get into the Halloween spirit is to play some spooky games, whether they’re alone or with some friends!

1. Outlast

Released in 2014, the original Outlast was widely praised for its terrifying yet immersive atmosphere. This first-person horror centers around investigative journalist, Miles Upshur, as he comes to investigate remote psychiatric hospital, Mount Massive Asylum. Outlast is certainly not a game for the faint-hearted, filled to the brim with jump scares, gore and violence, but if you’re looking for a game to keep you up at night, Outlast is definitely the game for you.

2. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

The Resident Evil franchise has been popular for years now, however there’s something about the brilliance of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard that makes it a perfect game to get in the mood for the Spooky Season. Whilst playing as Ethan Winters as he searches for his wife in a run-down plantation, you come face to face with the cannibal family that occupy the residence as you fight for your life. Even though the game is filled with jump scares and suspense, there’s also plenty of puzzles and strategy involved that allow the player to really put their skills to the test!

3. Phasmophobia

Phasmophobia is a fairly new game, only releasing last month, however it’s gaining quite a lot of traction due to the ability to play with friends within a psychological horror. The game itself revolves around you and three other friends working together to gather as much paranormal evidence as possible with the equipment at your disposal. One of the most unique features that this game utilises is the ability for it to use full voice recognition for the players to interact with the ghosts that they uncover. So far, the game has received positive reviews and is certainly a great choice if you’re looking for a scary game to play with friends.

4. Little Nightmares

Little Nightmares is a little different to the other games that have been mentioned. Consisting of various puzzles, this platformer horror is described as “gripping” and “suspenseful”. The game centers around a young girl named Six as you guide her through a massive iron vessel by the name of The Maw and encounter various creatures and puzzles along the way. Despite the fact that this game has a different approach in comparison to your first-person horrors, the atmosphere and audio is designed to unnerve audiences in the best way. If typical horror games aren’t your usual go to, Little Nightmares could be the game for you.

5. Slender: The Eight Pages

This final game is an absolute classic horror game for all. Slender: The Eight Pages is a game that truly immerses the player and isolates them entirely. You play as an unknown character and make your way around a dimly lit forest in the middle of the night. Your only objective is to collect the eight pages that are scattered around without being caught by the infamous Slender Man. Even though this game released in 2012, it’s still one of the most terrifying games of all time and ideal if you’re looking for a game to play this Halloween. Just be prepared to be kept awake at night checking over your shoulder!
