The death of Her Majaesty The Queen was announced on the 8th of September 2022, and it was a death that affected the whole nation and indeed the world. However, it has also probably left a lot of people questioning what will happen now, and how the death of this incredibly significant person will change the way we live.

The former Prince Charles has now been made our new monarch, styled as King Charles III, with trumpets played to proclaim his new reign on the 10th September 2022.

The United Kingdom are now into a ten-day mourning period for Queen Elizabeth II. The date of the funeral has now been confirmed as the 19th of September, which has also been declared as a national bank holiday.

During the mourning period plenty of events have/will happen:

• Day 1 saw the accession council meet at St James Castle with the announcement of the new King.

• Day 2 included similar proclamations are made by the Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish.

• Day 3 saw the King receive condolences at Westminster Hall. The King then began a tour to places such as Belfast, Edinburgh and Cardiff.

• Day 4 and 5 saw the Queens coffin yesterday flown from Scotland to London, and after a short stay at Buckingham Palace, The Queen will today lay in state at Westminster Hall.

• Day 6 will see the Queen lay in state, and on Day 7 and 8 the King will visit UK nations and attend meetings.

• Day 9 includes heads of states from across the world arriving in London for the state funeral.

• Lastly on day 10 the funeral will take place.

In addition to this here are some changes that will be made to the country in the upcoming weeks, months and years.

The National Anthem

One substantial change is the national anthem it was previously sang as “God save the Queen”,

however now it will change to “God save our King” and all the pronouns will be changed from her to him.

Money in the Uk

Another change that will be made is coins and banknotes. Currently it is a portrait of the queen, but it will have to be changed to the new King. These changes will not be expected to be made until about two years after her death. The royal cypher (those seen on postboxes) will be also changed from EIIR to CIIIR.

Titles of the royal family

Additional changes that will be made is the royal titles, for example Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall has now been named the Queens consort.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Prince William and Kate Middleton have now been named the Prince and Princess of Wales.

Even though Meghan Markle and Prince Harry decided to leave the royal family back in January 2020, since the Queen has died, their children Archie and Lillibet have become Prince and Princess and have regained their titles. Stories have suggested that the couple could reject these titles to enable their children to live a more private life.
