T20 World cup semi-final.

Joseph Spencer

As England look to take on New Zealand in the first semi-final today, we take a look at the big talking points of the game.

The biggest point is the fact Jason Roy will be out injured for the rest of the tournament with a torn calf. He pulled up in the South Africa game and was clearly in pain. This is a massive blow for England as he has been averaging 30.75 and scoring 123 runs in the World Cup so far.

The biggest mystery will be who comes in, we know James Vince has been brought into the squad but doesn’t mean he is in the 11 to play New Zealand. However, England have a lot of players to partner up with the destructive Jos Butler. The England opener has scored the 2nd most runs and holds the highest score with 101*.

Trent Boult and Tim Southee will be hoping that Butler doesn’t tee off and can expose a middle order that has barley been at the crease all tournament. Boult so far has 11 wickets and Southee with the 5th most amount of dot balls. Both bowlers will cause problems for England in the powerplay and at the death.

The strength of New Zealand is their Bowling whilst their batting has been quite lack luster. Kane Williamson scoring 126 runs in 5 innings and Martian Guptill scoring 176 runs in 5 innings but apart from them two, other players will need to step up and score some runs for the Blackcaps.

England Bowlers will need early wickets with the likes of Rashid and Ali causing a lot of problems for batsman and with the pace of Wood if selected will provide a different challenge for batters.

Overall it should be a great game and is really hard to predict the winner but with England deep batting and with some really good bowlers I think England will progress to the Final to play either Pakistan or Australia.
