Student is saved by classmates at Bradford’s Bede’s and St Joseph Catholic College on 6th December
On the 6th of December this year a defibrillator was used on a student in Bradford as she suddenly and unexpectedly collapsed after she had stopped breathing.
An 18 year old student collapsed at college leaving her year 13 classmates and staff member to perform CPR before paramedics arrived and getting the young girl breathing again.
The headmaster spoke after the incident stating: ‘shortly before the last lesson of the day a year 13 student collapsed

An ambulance was called, and in the meantime one of our very brave year 13 students applied CPR, as did our welfare officer who was on the scene. They also applied the defibrillator. The ambulance arrived a little while later. We also had an air ambulance hovering, and the paramedics were able to get her breathing’.
Once the ambulance did arrive the student was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary as it was thought that she had underlying health conditions.
The day after the incident, the pupil’s family have confirmed that she is awake with no signs of any brain damage. She has now been admitted to Leeds for a suspected heart defect.
The headmaster later added: ‘They have asked for our prayers and we are providing them. And we send every best wish and all the luck in the world to the family
I want to say How extremely proud I am of the year 13 student who issued CPR and acted so quickly, calmly, and sensibly’.
