Shocking racist responses to Sainsbury Christmas Ad

Beatriz Santos

Sainsbury's have recently released their first three Christmas adverts which were met with racist responses over twitter and other social media apps. The advert consists of a black family celebrating Christmas and watching movies, dancing and having Christmas dinner together.

However, the advert got lots of people upset at Sainsburys because they say ‘it’s not inclusive’ and they don’t feel ‘represented’ and that they will be ‘boycotting Sainsbury’. While some are praising Sainsburys for being inclusive and showing different races.

Spark & Co tweeted ‘we applaud Sainsbury for their new Christmas ad it brought us much needed joy the UK is a multicultural place and we’re glad that supermarkets like Sainsbury’s are moving towards a more accurate representation of Britain’. Sainsburys also gave their own response to the backlash on the advert ‘at Sainsburys we want to be the most inclusive retailer. That’s why throughout all our advertising we aim to represent modern Britain, which has a wide range of communities.'

They also replied to someone in their comments claiming that ‘this was the worst advert they’ve ever seen’ Sainsbury responded by saying. ‘Over the last few years we’ve taken a different direction with our Christmas ads and everyone will have their favourite of course this year has been a year like no other and we wanted to reflect this in our advertising.'

It looks like Sainsbury won’t let these comments get to them and will defend the advert they created, with many people still having conflicting views on the matter.
