A virtual launch event on Monday 16 November will mark the start of South Yorkshire Safeguarding Awareness Week 2020.

Building on the successes of previous Safeguarding Awareness Weeks, Barnsley Adult and Children’s Safeguarding Boards will again be working with partners from health, the emergency services, the voluntary sector and others, to raise everyone’s awareness of what safeguarding means, the situations in which it can arise and signpost people to the organisations which can offer help and support.
Throughout the week, Monday 16 to Friday 20 November, there will be a variety of local, regional and national virtual events for professionals and volunteers to attend. Some of the key topics include:
Domestic abuse
Fuel poverty
Exploitation of young adults
Partner referral training
Self-neglect and hoarding
Fraud
There will also be information shared across Barnsley Council, the CCG and South Yorkshire Police’s social media channels about safe sleeping, child sexual exploitation and increased isolation due to Coronavirus (COVID-19).
Safeguarding is all of our responsibility all year round, and therefore more information will be shared regarding a full programme of public events on safeguarding topics to be delivered throughout 2021.
