Manchester City have signed Portuguese central defender Ruben Dias from Benfica for a fee of £65M.

The 6.1ft Portuguese international signs a six-year deal with 6x league champions with Nicolas Otamendie going the other way for a fee of £13M. Dias is the 3rd signing for City this season with Nathan Ake and Ferran Torres joining the citizens earlier in the window; this brings up Pep Guardiola’s spending up to £900M, £400M of this is spent of defenders. Dias has been very impressive for the past couple seasons with interests across Europe becoming more regular and clubs in high demand for the 23-year-old.
It is always a risk when spending large amounts of money on young players, the price tag usually adds a large amount of pressure. However, to say Dias is only 23 his CV suggests he is pretty experienced for the age he is as he was included in Portugal’s 2018 world cup squad and also captaining Benfica in his last game for the Eagles.
Is this a statement from Man City? Who knows, if anything it is concerning from a finical perspective as the amount of money Pep has spent while being at city is mind-blowing. Do not get me wrong, City will defiantly be title challengers again this season but will the close 18PT? gap Liverpool left last season?
