Rashford Receives MBE

Matthew Grimshaw

Marcus Rashford received his MBE award on Tuesday the 9th November. He received the accolade in recognition of his work for vulnerable children throughout the Coronavirus pandemic. He received the award from The Duke of Cambridge at Winsor Castle.

The England international forced the UK Government into two U-turns to ensure that free school meals was extended into the school holidays. He has previously stated that he would give the award to his mother Melanie Maynard who herself has received some recognition for her efforts towards child food poverty. She has a food bank warehouse named after her.

Rashford also received a Doctorate from the University of Manchester in October. He then became the youngest recipient of the award. He also released a bestseller book names ‘You are a Champion’, raising money for Macmillan.

His involvement with helping fight for meals for vulnerable children began in March 2020 when he took to social media to express his concern for the children in need of meals. He then began his campaign and fought the Government into two U-turns on decisions made regarding free school meals.
