Chris Witty and sir Patrick Vallence held a presentation at 11 o’clock this morning informing the general public on how to protect yourselves, and the people around you, as the increase in cases is suggesting a serious second wave is on the way.
During this presentation we where told about some crucial information to try and put the current situation into prospective for the public. Sir Patrick Valence started off the presentation by commenting on the situation in Spain and France and telling us "we are only six weeks behind" and we need to take drastic action to stop this.
He continued by saying young people are mostly getting infected and spreading it to the more vulnerable age groups. There’s an increase in cases and testing but it’s not due to the increase in testing. 70,000 people have it and 6,000 new cases a day the curve suggests that by mid October there could be 50,000 new cases a day.
Sir Patrick also stated that also people who have had the virus usually have an antibody. Not everyone has one most do though so even they need to be very careful. Chris Witty told us that we should all be monitoring the situation for up to six months and we all need to take the current situation very seriously as this is the turning point and a crucial point in the pandemic.
He also told us all that there’s four way this could currently go.
1 - Direct Covid deaths increase.
2 - The NHS becomes overwhelmed.
3 - If the NHS has to deal with more deaths it will lead to reduction of treatment and detection for other diseases as well.
4 - More economic downfall. He said that great development in treatment has been made but we need to all be responsible until a vaccine is available.
If we do not slow the curve of the coronavirus a new worse pandemic will happen that we all need to help to prevent it. By mid October we could be looking at 50,000 new cases a day and we all need to do are bit to prevent this and to prevent another full lockdown.
