‘People’s alliance’ begs for equality as excessive consumption of COVID vaccine violates human right

Following recent events, new information has now been released to the public surrounding the distribution of the COVID 19 vaccine; alongside a brief update containing details regarding the list of countries that will be fortunate enough to receive the first purchases of the drug, after months of trailing.

This announcement was published just days after the national lockdown was lifted and once again all of the English counties are now required to follow the guidelines of one of the three updated tiers. Throughout recent weeks the majority of the country’s population has began to re-join their position in their workplace or educational centre, in the hopes that some sense of normality will be restored back into society, as we prepare to enter to festive holidays.

The new COVID 19 vaccine, that has been continuously developed throughout the pandemic, is set to increase immunity against the Coronavirus and has already had an immense improvement on the existing symptoms some of the trial volunteers were experiencing.

However, ‘The people’s vaccine alliance’ have recently made an announcement on behalf of their committee, urging ‘wealthier and better developed countries’ to follow the protocol of the human rights laws and therefore resist purchasing the new COVID 19 vaccine in excessive quantities. The announcement presented by Dr Mohga Kamal Yanni, from The People’s Vaccine Alliance, stated that “Rich countries have enough doses to vaccinate everyone nearly three times over, whilst poor countries don’t even have enough to even reach health workers and people at risk’’.

Dr Mobaga also reminded each of the listed countries, that the pandemic is a global crisis and that each government should act in a humane manner and realise how desperate many less developed countries are in this situation and therefore equality is needed now more than ever; in order to ensure that every eligible person has access to the vaccine including ‘both key workers and non-essentials’.

Currently, many of the COVID survivors that participated in the vaccine trial, are discussing their opinion surrounding the efficiency and overall effectiveness of the drug; with the majority of the candidates claiming that the new vaccine has successfully reduced their symptoms or increased their immunity to the disease.

Additionally, a large majority of the people tested, also found the procedure to be ‘harmless’ and had left them with minor side effects or none at all. The most recent trial data suggests that the new vaccine is ‘safe and 90% effective’, according to the data analysis of the drug trial, developed by ‘The University of Oxford and AstraZeneca’.

In addition, the head of the ‘Amnesty International’s Economic and Social Justice’, recently described how “the hoarding of vaccines actively undermines global efforts to ensure that everyone, everywhere can be protected from COVID-19. He then continued to suggest that, ‘rich countries have clear human rights obligations not only to refrain from actions that could harm access to vaccines elsewhere, but also to cooperate and provide assistance to countries that need it’.

The similarities shown throughout the opinions of both committee’s listed above, are not only understandable but are considered to be valid drawbacks that will need to be carefully evaluated, in order for there to be no further issues in the distribution of the vaccine and the ability for the drug to be available in the shortest amount of time.
