Nathan John Feuerstein more commonly known as NF is an American singer rapper, who released his recent album HOPE in early 2023. The album became the centerpiece of his 2023/2024 Tour - which just ended its UK sweep in October.
Throughout his time as an artist, NF has developed a large fan following, with his music covering his own mental issues and those faced by others. With his new album ‘HOPE’ reaching NO.2 in UK album charts, it makes him one of the most popular and influential rappers in this current time.
However, despite these achievements, NF is still viewed by many as being a small rapper due to the fact he isn’t known by everyone, though he still manages to sell out over 10,000 tickets at his arena and stadium concerts.
So why is he still being classed as a small artist?
Primarily, it is due to his songs not being fit to be played on mainstream radio stations due to their nature. The songs he releases cover sensitive topics which aren’t permitted on mainstream radio, such as drug abuse, suicide, and numerous other mental health conditions.
NF tends to use his own personal experiences and feelings within his songs.
The song ‘How Could You Leave Us’, covers his mother’s drug addiction and the guilt he felt for not calling her and helping to prevent that addiction which inevitably caused her to leave her children behind.
Despite the guilt faced in the song, he touches on how his mother never had time for her kids due to the drugs, but the emotion exposed within the song shows that despite all she has done, he finds it hard to hate her for as it is tough for a child to not love their mother. Instead, the song shows a feeling of self-guilt as he feels he did nothing to help her, therefore blaming himself.
Nevertheless, his recent album ‘HOPE’, has fans saying that NF has healed from his past traumas and mental health conditions as the song ‘Happy’ focuses on healing and moving on from past mistakes, particularly from childhood trauma which has affected both himself and countless others throughout their lives.
These factors are what makes NF one of the best songwriters of this current era due to how relatable his music is and the message that each song delivers it makes the topics very touching for many listeners, some claiming that his music has ‘saved their lives’ and helped bring them from their darkest moments with their own mental health battles. But the motto that has stood at the forefront of his music and that will continue to stand,
‘It’s real music till the day we die.’
