Today, I will look back at some of my best away days as a Barnsley FC fan, covering the game and my experience as an away fan. Starting with the most recent one, Cambridge United away.
Cambridge United away, The Abbey Stadium. 17th September 2022- 3-0 win
Saturday began with a 6:30am start which was 100% worth it as the reds produced an excellent performance with 10 men at the Abbey Stadium with goals from Devante Cole, Robbie Cundy and James Norwood. The journey to Cambridge went smoothly and it was overall a very good day spent with friends and was topped by the performance. The game was overshadowed by the injury to reds goalkeeper Brad Collins which has led to a suspected broken nose. As a reds fan who has not seen many victories on the road in recent years this one was a day I really enjoyed.

Sheffield Wednesday away 3rd September 2022 2-0 win
My first away game of this season ended with a big win at local rivals Sheffield Wednesday by 2 goals to nil following an opener from Devante Cole and the 2nd from James Norwood with a powerful header. This was my 3rd trip to Hillsborough to watch the reds in action and it was 3rd time lucky to see a win in Sheffield. This is up there with one of the best away days I have been on celebrating a fantastic performance with nearly 3000 other reds who were in attendance. This was the first-time id seen us win an away game in person since before covid began but it was worth the wait!

Fulham away 15th February 2020 3-0 win
Next up we go 2 years back to the trip to Craven cottage as we took on promotion fighting Fulham and whilst ourselves were fighting relegation, we managed to defeat them by 3 goals to nil with a double from Cauley Woodrow and a 3rd from Jacob Brown. This was my first trip to the cottage and hopefully not my last as the atmosphere was electric and it was overall a really good away game and day out. The limbs were also excellent!
Craven Cottage rating- 9/10
Accrington Stanley away 17th November 2018 2-0 win
Accrington Stanley away is for me one the best away games in the EFL and I’m buzzing to attend our game against them on boxing day. The last time we visited the Wham Stadium the game ended 2-0 to the reds with goals from Cauley Woodrow and Kieffer Moore. The reds sold out the away end and this game broke the record attendance for a game at the Wham Stadium. This game gave the team a huge confidence boost in the fight for promotion under Daniel Stendel. League 1 away games are amazing aren’t they?!
Both Wembley trips 2016 Barnsley 3-1 Millwall, Barnsley 3-2 Oxford United
Finally, we take a look at both trips to Wembley in the space of a few months which saw us win the Johnstone paint trophy against Oxford United by 3 goals to 2 and beat Millwall 3-1 to secure promotion to the Championship. These were games right at the start of my time supporting the reds and are memories that will last for the rest of my life. Red’s legend Adam Hammill headlined these 2 games with 2 screamers to secure the reds beat both opponents. I was sat behind both goals and saw both fly into the net and hearing the roar from the red’s faithful is something I’ll remember forever. Our team these days featured some players who went on to have excellent careers such as Conor Hourihane and Ivan Toney who has just been called up the England squad for the first time. Hopefully Michael Duffs reds do enough to book a place at Wembley this season whether that be in the playoff final or the Papa John’s trophy!
