Leeds united beat Newcastle united 2-1 to move 12th in the premier league. Where could they finish?

Leeds united played Newcastle at St James park last night in the premier league. Leeds won the match 2-1 with goals from Raphinha and jack Harrison with Miguel Almiron scoring the only goal for Newcastle.

This game ends Leeds United’s three game loosing streak where they lost to Tottenham hotspurs Crawley town and Brighton and hove Albion where they failed to score a single goal in all three matches. Many pundits had started to doubt Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa and his way of playing with sky sports suggesting the “wheels had fallen off” for Bielsas side so a reaction was needed from the west Yorkshire outfit.

Steve Bruce needed his side to make a reaction as well as Newcastle have failed to win a game in eleven matches in all competitions and failing to score in their last four matches until last night. Many pundits and fans are starting to question weather Steve Bruce is the man for the job at Newcastle.

Leeds united have been branded the entertainers this season with an impressive high intensity style of play labelled the “Bielsa press”. Leeds have shown impressive displays against Liverpool, Manchester city, West Brom and Fulham.

Majority of Leeds games have an entertaining element to them weather whites are loosing winning or drawing but with many great displays this season Leeds have shown some immense weakness at the back being 19th for goals conceded and 20th for corners conceded and some teams where able to exploit this such as Manchester united defeating Leeds with a 6-2 win at old Trafford.

In recent weeks Leeds have improved on set pieces and are beginning to look overall more defensively sound starting to improve at corners and set pieces but issues are still there.

Leeds united suffered a huge blow in the summer transfer market when they where unable to re-sign ben white on a permanent basis from Brighton.

Leeds then quickly bought two defenders robin Koch and Diego Llorente totalling at nearly 35 million for the both of them both are currently out injured with Llorente not being able to play a few games and Koch going for knee surgery a quarter way through of the season meaning Leeds have had to rely on right back Luke Ayling and young centre back pascal Struijk to fill in which can require the whole defence to move about causing a less effective back line.

I believe Leeds united will most likely stay around twelfth or eleventh they have demonstrated a great ability in the first half of the season to beat teams around and below that position but struggling to beat teams in the top eight so twelfth would be a great position for them to finish and Leeds fans will most likely be happy to finish there for there first season back in the premier league after 16 years.
