In an attempt to cut down the UK’s global greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050, Boris Johnson has put forward his 10-point plan, including a ban on all new petrol and diesel cars after 2030.

Originally, the ban on new petrol and diesel cars being sold was set to be rolled out by 2040, however with the current climate crisis growing even more severe by the day, it’s vital that action is taken as quickly as possible. This is what Boris Johnson is aiming to do with his new 10-point plan.

As well as the increase in electric vehicles, Johnson’s plan includes protecting natural environments, aiming to cut planes and ships emissions down to zero along with public transport, too. His plan is also aiming to create and support up to 250,000 jobs across Britain.

Despite this plan seeming hopeful, the Labour Party have stated that announcement of the plan “fell short”, however the Committee of climate change praised Boris Johnson’s plan on what he calls the “Green Revolution”.

The announcement of this plan doesn’t come as a surprise after China’s recent claims to cut their own emissions down, along with several other nations, along with U.S President-elect Joe Biden’s claims to re-enter the USA into the Paris Climate Change Agreement once he is inaugurated in January.

With the UK set to host the COP26 Climate Conference in 2021, it is only fitting that they would bring out a plan with bold statements to further show their ambition for a greener future. If anything, this plan seems to be a step in the right direction regarding the rising climate battle and our country’s stance on the matter at hand.
