Joe Biden, who was newly sworn in to being the next U.S president, is already making big plans starting off with pledging to get 300 million people vaccinated against Covid-19 by the end of summer or by early fall.
During his speech Biden stated “my whole soul is in this bringing America together uniting our people uniting our nation and I ask every American to join me in this cause”. He clearly seems to be wanting to follow through on this promise and said on Tuesday that he was going to ramp up vaccination programs so that most of America has the vaccine by the end of the summer. He said on Tuesday that “it will be one of the most difficult operational challenges we’ve ever undertaken”. This is because they plan on accelerating vaccine distributions to deliver 1.4m shots a day and 10m doses a week for the next three weeks.
He revealed that the “vaccine program was in worse shape than expected or anticipated’ and called it “unacceptable”. The new order will allow the government to vaccinate people with a two dose regimen of either Pfizer or the moderna. It seems Biden is tackling the problem head on and for many Americans this is a relief since they had such high numbers at the start of 2020. A senior administration official called the rollout a “daunting effort” and called on congress to pass a $1.9tn stimulus package with money for state vaccination campaigns.
President Biden's goal of vaccinating 300 million people by the end of summer could be in reach, as the U.S reaches 1 million doses a day on Biden's first week as president. So this goal of getting 300 million people vaccinated could very well become reality, even though it's going to take a lot of hard work from Biden and his administration.
