After suffering a cardiac arrest on the pitch at Euro 2020 this summer, Christian Eriksen looks to have mutually ended his time at Italian champions Inter Milan, after club and player agree on his contract being terminated.

There’s no doubt that quick on-scene paramedics and fellow players saved Christian Eriksen’s life in Denmark’s clash with Finland in Euro 2020 this summer, however Eriksen looks to be taking some time away from football as he tries to recover from a shocking cardiac arrest on the worlds biggest stage. Eriksen was awake and conscious after the incident, saying from hospital “I’m fine – under the circumstances”. His doctor also quoted “He (Eriksen) was gone”, making it clear that an on-scene defibrillator, paramedics, and the players on the pitch saved Eriksen’s life. In October of 2021 it was confirmed that Christian was ‘not allowed to play’ for Inter Milan this season after the cardiac arrest. The Dane was also fitted with an ICD (heart-starting device) to try and prevent further complications.

Eriksen joined Inter in January of 2020, he made 60 appearances for the club, grabbing 8 goals and 3 assists in that time. Despite most recently playing for Inter, Christian is often seen as a former Tottenham Hotspur star, a club he played 305 games for between 2013 and 2020. Eriksen is yet to speak on this matter, however it is believed he was in rehabilitation trying to get back fit enough to play football.

Similarly, Argentinian footballer Sergio Aguero announced his retirement from football in a press conference today, after finding out he has a heart problem, meaning it would be dangerous to continue playing. Aguero left the pitch during Barcelona’s game against Alaves holding his chest, clearly struggling to breathe.
