Five best beaches to visit without leaving Yorkshire

If 2020 were any other usual year then the upcoming October half term would be filled with holidays abroad, airports would be bustling and hotels would be booked up. Unfortunately, the current worldwide pandemic means that we can’t just catch a plane for a week away. However, there are still beautiful places to visit that are right on our doorstep. These are the five best seaside places to visit without leaving Yorkshire. 

Whitby

A trip to the seaside town of Whitby would be perfect to fill up time in the upcoming half term. Filled with picturesque scenes and plenty of places to shop and eat (following restrictions of course), there’s lots to do! Take a walk up the 199 steps to the gothic ruins of the Whitby Abbey, overlooking the North Sea, and see the inspiration for Bram Stokers iconic ‘Dracula’. Whitby is definitely a place to put in your calendars. 

Scarborough

Scarborough is another famous Yorkshire seaside town you need to visit, with a classic historical charm and scenic views, it’s great for a peaceful trip away. Though tranquil, it still offers iconic seaside traditions such as arcades, donkey rides and fish n’ chips that kids are sure to love. You don’t need to be abroad to have a fun filled holiday when Scarborough’s an option. 

Bridlington

Looking for a brisk and breezy coastal visit for your time off? Get yourself down to the coastal town of Bridlington. Nicknamed as the “Lobster Capital of Europe”, Bridlington offers the best seafood. Grab a bite and take a walk along its bustling promenades before having a nosey at its numerous shops, make sure you bring back some rock!  Finish your day off with a sunset walk along the sandy beach. 

Filey

Filey is just as beautiful as any holiday destination abroad, the former fishing village offers a  grand golden beach, as well as historic Edwardian architecture that anyone would love. If you are looking for a quaint and picturesque getaway, Filey is a great option!

Flamborough

Flamborough is every outdoor lovers dream. A stretch of stunning white cliffs overlook the sea, perfect for spotting seals and for birdwatching.
