People living in level three and four areas, in Scotland, will be breaking the law from Friday if they make non-essential journeys outside of their council area. First Minister Nicola Sturgeon told MSPs police would have the powers to enforce the new restrictions.
However, from Friday, the first minister confirmed that advice would become law:
People living in level three or level four must not travel outside their own council area, except for certain essential purposes.
People living elsewhere in Scotland must not travel to level three or level four areas, except for essential purposes.
In addition, there must be no non-essential travel between Scotland and other parts of the UK.
Essentials include healthcare, childcare and social care. Travelling to school, colleges and universities when online sessions are not applied. Travelling for food and drink. A further nine local authorities are in level three, in addition to the 11 council areas under the highest level of restrictions.
Ms Sturgeon told BBC "I know this is difficult, but it is essential. Broadly, comparable restrictions have been or continue to be in force in England and Wales.’’ In my opinion, I agree with this statement because these restrictions seem necessary and help contribute towards fighting COVID -19.
