There have been multiple sacrifices from an entertainment perspective this year, because of the current worldwide pandemic and the ongoing uncertainty of its long-term effects on healthcare, businesses and society across the globe. However, another annual celebration has been cancelled this month, because of the new rules and lockdown restrictions that have been recently reinstated across Britain.

One of the traditional Christmas events in the town of Barnsley, South Yorkshire has received the information that by law, the popular event will no longer be granted permission to hold the celebration in the local town this year in front of the town hall as usual.
This unlikely turn of events arrived after many national news stations across the country released a general statement earlier this week, confirming that gathering of more than six people are now forbidden, excluding very limited exceptions. Therefore, along will multiple other towns and cities across England, it is certain that unfortunately a large number of celebrations and events will have to either be cancelled or postponed for the forceable future.

These last minute cancellations will be put in place in order to protect the local community, in the hope that the reinstated lockdown restrictions will have a beneficial impact in lowering the amount of coronavirus cases and casualties, that will be admitted to hospital in the beginning stages of a potential second wave.
However, a staff member from Barnsley council has reassured the local residents and the towns visitors, that there may be an exciting alternative to the event. Details of this event will be released to the public within the upcoming weeks, which will hopefully reignite a sense of excitement in the town, which will be shared amongst many friends and families whilst restoring the lively spirit of the citizens; which has undoubtedly decreased because of the devastating events of the year.
