Chris witty and Sir Patrick Valence held a presentation which showed us the upward trend of the Covid-19 situation.
The Chief medical officer and the Chief scientific adviser gave out information regarding England’s situation with covid-19. The main point they came across was to continue to “Wash, Face and Space”.
They started off by reminding the country how the virus is transmitted and how to minimize the risk of catching the virus. They also referred to Europe and specifically France and Spain showing us a graph highlighting the deaths from covid across different age groups. Then they moved on to a graph showing the amount of positive cases and what it could look like.
The graph was alarming because if the trend keeps going like it is now it could hit 49,000 new cases by mid-October and 200+ deaths per day in November. Chris Witty also openly said that this is a “6 month problem” and that it is “all of our problem”.
Chris Witty also pointed out 4 main points reduce your risks – “Hands, face and space"
- Isolate when having the virus – self isolate, track and trace
- Break unnecessary links - social, business and friends and family
- Science – drugs and new vaccines
However they finished on a good note and stated that vaccines are on their way out as soon as early next year which is amazing news for the UK. In conclusion the presentation shared some alarming information which has highlighted that the country must change its ways before things with Covid-19 get to a point where we can’t change our ways.
