Coming into the 21/22 season, with Slavissa Jokanovicappointed, Sheffield United seemed up amongst the favourites for promotion, however 6 months later, things are looking much different.

As all football fans know, getting some wins early on is crucial for kicking on into a successful season. This wasn’t the case however, with united starting the season without a win in the first 5 league games.

This was then followed up with a 6-2 win over Peterborough, starting off a short run, going unbeaten in 4. However, what followed was an unsteady run of games, with the Blades still trying to find their identity, and after just under 6 months, manager Slavissa Jokanovic was sacked.

The sacking of Slavissa Jokanovic was followed up by chairman Yusuf Giansiracusa and CEO Stephen Bettis with a press conference, in which the board mapped out their vision for the future of the club, with there being a link to using youth more in the first team for both development of the players, as well as improving the first team.

Since the change of manager, with Paul Heckingbottom coming in, the Blades have beaten both Bristol City and Cardiff City, with the blades now on a 3-game winning streak and unbeaten in 4.

Heckingbottom’s blades are heading towards a tough Christmas schedule, with the next 2 games being against QPR and then league leaders Fulham, before a boxing day clash with Preston, a 7:45pm game vs Hull, and a news years day fixture vs Middlesbrough, with ex-blades manager Chris Wilder returning to Brammall Lane.

Sheffield United still have every chance of earning promotion this season, if the mentality stays right, however it will still be a tough job to pull off.
