ARE ANIMALS MISS TREATED ON I'M A CELEBRITY?

ITV and the production team are told to re-think the way they use animals and insects in ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me out Of Here’ by replacing the trials with an animal friendly challenges in the show.

Due to the pandemic I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here is being taken in North Wales at the Gwynrch Castel, that is also said to be haunted, instead of the Australian jungle where it has always been.

RSPCA are ‘disappointed’ as animals and insects are being mistreated as they are ‘dropped, thrown, handled roughly, crushed, chased, overcrowded, scared by contestants and prevented from escaping stressful situations’. This following the first episode of the series to be hosted this year in the ‘Gates Of Hell’ trial where insects were dropped onto celebrities in cages and likely trod on, as well as the ‘viper vault’ trial where Jordan North and Shane Richie went into an enclosed space in the ground and were surrounded by dozens of snakes.

The RSPCA have also stated that animals are getting killed for ‘no other purposes than entertainment’. This following the eating trial that followed Tuesdays night episode where Jordan North, Beverly Callard and Vernon Kay ate multiple horrifying foods. As Beverly had recently turned vegan in March of this year she was given putrefied vegan foods. The others were given horrifying foods like a cows tongue.

The show has been asked to use ‘animal cruelty free’ trials to prevent this from happening as it stresses out the animals that are involved in the trials, specialist have Said that even though the celebrities are stressed when being faced with the animals, the animals are even more stressed out than them as they are unaware of their surrounding and are at risk of being injured.

The charity has spoken up and said that they were ‘very pleased’ when ITV got in contact with them during the planning of the show and the trials. They say ‘we have spoken to them about changing the way they use animals along with the change of continent- perhaps introducing welfare friendly alternatives to animal use during the trials’. They later said ‘however, we were really disappointed to be told that they would be continue to be using animals in this was during this series’.

There have been many tweets from enraged fans saying that they think that what they are doing to the animals is unfair as they are innocent.

One person has tweeted ‘I have no idea why I’m a celebrity is such a popular ITV show! It shows a complete and utter lack of respect for the natural world. Animal cruelty for entertainment and people think it’s hilarious…well done world’.
