It’s no secret that 2016 was a huge year for music, with albums from that year still being played on the daily. It’s shocking that some of these classic albums are turning 5 years old already, with some of songs feeling as if they were only released yesterday. Where has the time gone? Here are 5 iconic albums that turn 5 this year…

The Weeknd - Starboy

Starboy was the third studio album released by Canadian singer, The Weeknd. Fans started listening on the 25th November, when it was released, and have been listening ever since. The memorable album featured guest appearances from Lana Del Rey, Daft Punk, Future and Kendrick Lamare.

Frank Ocean – Blonde

Personally, I would say Frank Ocean’s Blonde is a necessity for every sad playlist, and fans would quickly agree. Recording for the album took 3 years, before it was released on the 20th August where it received mass praising from critics. The album is currently ranked in at number 79 on the Rolling Stones list of the ‘500 Greatest Albums of All Time’.

Anderson Paak – Malibu

Anderson Paak started 2016 off with a bang by releasing his second studio album ‘Malibu’ on January 15th. The R&B album ended up placing highly on several music critics’ end of year lists, and it even received a Grammy nomination for Best Urban Contemporary Album.

Mac Miller – Divine Feminine

‘Divine Feminine’ charted at number two on the US Billboard 200 after it’s release on September 16th. The fourth studio album from Mac Miller featured multiple memorable guest appearances, including Arian Grande, Anderson Paak, Kendrick Lamar and Ty Dolla Sign among others.

Kanye West – The Life of Pablo

Kanye West’s valentine’s day present to his fans was the release of his seventh studio album, The Life of Pablo, which hit streaming services on the 14th of February. Recording for the album took place across three years, in Italy, Mexico, Canada and the United States. Guest vocals on the album including some other hit artists, including Rihanna, Post Malone and Frank Ocean.
